Balfour Ker attended Pyle's Monday night lectures on composition in 1908 and shared on of Pyle's with Gayle Hoskins. He married Mary Ellen Sigsbee (who was to study with Pyle later) in 1907. In the same year Ker and his wife left to study painting in Paris. The Kers returned to the United States in 1908 and were divorced in 1910. |

Born on November,19 1878, in the village of Lunden, Holstein, in Germany, W.H.D. Koerner emigrated with his family to Clinton, Iowa, in 1881. After graduating from Clinton Grammar School in 1897, Koerner attended John M. Stich's art classes in Clinton for almost a year. He went to Chicago in 1898 to work as a staff artist on the Chicago Tribune. |

Born in LaSalle, Illinois, on June 29,1886, Henry B. Lachman was orphaned as a young child and was brought up by his uncle. His talent manifested itself early, a picture of his being awarded a prize by St. Nicholas magazine and reproduceyin its "St. Nicholas League" section in 1904. |

Winfield Scott Lukens studied with Howard Pyle at Drexel from 1896 until 1899. According to Frank Schoonover's notes, Lukens gave up illustration to become a house painter. |
